QuestionI have 8 bushes, all planted last year. One was dead in the spring, all others came up green and covered with buds. Now all of them are showing signs of yellowing, dropping leaves. Soil is good blend, last addition was mushroom manure last fall. Have not fertilized this year, plenty of moisture in our area. How can I save them?
AnswerIt sounds like you have done everything you can to make your roses grow well. Many gardeners are finding that the weird weather we had during the winter has caused a lot of strange problems with the roses. Many of the rose bushes seem to start out well but then slowly fail. Most times roses can put out a little new growth using the moisture in the dead canes. I would check and see if the canes are dead but scratching the outside bark. They could have taken a hit during the winter.
