QuestionI have roses planted all around my home; some climbers, others bushes. They were all different colors when I planted them. However, they are all the same deep red color and none of them are cutting roses anymore. HELP!
AnswerAll modern roses in the states are usually grafted onto a climber called Dr. Huey. Dr. Huey is very vigorous and is a small, double carmine red flower. What has happened is that your original roses have died and the understock has taken over. There is no way you can get the original rose back as it will be totally dead. if you do dig them up and plant new ones in, you will have to protect them better against the cold of your winter if you get a cold winter. It appears that they have died because of the winter cold.
