QuestionHi, I live in Northern Wisconsin, and would like to know what kind of roses to plant in this colder climate. I would also like to know if there is a cold hardy climbing rose. Thank you.
AnswerYou can grow roses very well in your climate all you have to do is select those types of roses that are proven to be hardy all through your winter. Again because of your cold winters, you should choose roses that don't need to be pampered, put in cages or somehow protected during the winter. Roses are to be enjoyed not worried over during the cold. Here is a list to make your selection. William Baffin is the largest climber and John Davis is a pretty pink one. You can't go wrong with these roses. Pickering Nurseries ( a well known and respected nursery in Canada ) carries most of them and they ship into the States.
