QuestionI have 11 rosebushes. Last year we sprayed bushes for both insects & disease, probably too much because after that the few blooms that sprouted were deformed. We cut back bushes in fall & now this spring, leaves are good, but no buds. What can I do? I line in Eastern PA.
AnswerIt almost sounds like the rose is getting even with you for spraying it.LOL Seriously I have heard of roses re-acting, like you described, to the all in one type of rose spray. The lack of flower buds may be because the bud eyes were damaged. But because you pruned them back that should have cut most of the damaged wood off. The other reason could be the buds were damaged by a spring frost. If you had a cold snap for even a days time, then that would kill the emerging buds. The rose will put out more flower buds so you will get flowers but it will take about 3 weeks for the new buds to form again. If after the beginning of June there are still no buds, then the spray has seriously damaged the rose and is still acting in the sap of the rose. The roses should outgrow it, but it will take time.
