QuestionI need a fast growing climbing rose for a 7 foot chainlink fence around my pool I am in south georgia, zone 8. Any suggestions? Thorns would be fine. thank you.
AnswerIn your zone most climbers will do fine for you. A chainlink fence is ideal because it gives support to the rose but also lets the air circulate through the mesh. Fast growing climbers tend to push up tall, stiff canes which will not bend but will snap when you try to arrange them. They then end up as tall, thin bushes. It might be better to plant a climber that would cover the fence and one you could prune without much trouble. The following should do fine for you are should be reasonably disease free.
