QuestionI have two small iceberg tree roses that were in full bloom (April). My gardener decided to trim them with a hedge trimmer to shape them and cut every single rose and bloom off of the bush. Will the bush recover? How much damage does that do to the bush? (I live in Southern California.)
AnswerI know it sounds like it is a terrible way to prune a rose but this is the way many rose nurseries do it. It would take them too long to carefully prune hundreds of roses individually. The bush looks like a tiger attacked it afterwards but it will come back. I would be a little concerned that it was done in a private garden as a person should have enough time to do it carefully. Don't worry at all, as the roses will not die just look ragged for a few weeks until the new growth comes back.
