QuestionWe have a fairly healthy rose bush taht has started to lose its leaves. There are no spots on the leaves and it gets plenty of water and sun. Why is this happening?
AnswerWhen a normally healthy rose starts to suddenly drop it's leaves, the problem is usually in the roots. Something is happening down at that level and is stopping the water and nutrients to get to the leaves. Animals gnawing n the roots will do it also a round golf ball size gall at the base will also cause the problem. If you do have a gall at the base then the rose should be dug out and burned. Galls will continue to cause problems even if you cut them out as they are filled with bacteria. Galls can also be anywhere on a cane so check the whole rose. Please get back to me if this isn't the problem.
