QuestionHi,
We planted a beautiful rose which is doing well-growth wise. The problem is Japanese beetles devour the flowers so quickly I can't keep up with them. I'm actually thinking of taking the beautiful rose bush out... Please help save my roses!! I'm in zone 5a.
AnswerDon't let those beetles destroy your love of roses. Because you only have one rose bush it is easy to keep them off even if it is not attractive. The beetles come out at night and devour the roses and then they have a nap in the early hours of the morning. If you put material like bridal veil over the whole bush and tie it around the base so they can't crawl inside it, then that will at least stop them from eating the flowers. The other thing you can do is go out early in the morning before 7 o'clock and hand pick them off the bush and also around the base. Just put them into a bucket of soapy water. Here is a good website which will tell you all about these pests.
