QuestionChicago IL
This month I tore out our whole front yard and and put in new landscaping. I put in three large rose bushes near the walkway and the lady at the garden center who seemed to know a lot said they will do fine in filtered light. Our house is facing the South but does have 3 large trees in our parkway. Is filtered light OK for these bushes?
AnswerAlas no rose does well in filtered light. It will survive but will not reach it's full potential in regards to flowering. There are some landscape type roses that do okay in all day filtered sunlight such as Knock Out, but most tend to get fungal diseases. It also depends where you garden, in California they would probably do better. Can you send me the name of the roses? Then I can tell you what conditions they like to grow in.
