I live in an extremely hot, sunny climate(California), where it is sunny for about 8 months in a row.  How can I protect the long stems of my tree roses from the sun?

Rose trees are usually made by growing a Rugosa rose to the required length. Stopping the growth and then budding a modern rose on the top.Rugosa roses are from Japan and are used to growing wild all along the sea coast . This means that they can take salt, sun and wind on their bark. You shouldn't have any problems, but there is something you can use if you want to. It is usually used on very young trees to stop rabbits or other animals from damaging. They are called tree guards and most garden centers will have them.
