Knock roses

Question
Can I plant knock out roses in pots as I am too old to dig a large hole? I live in
Nashville TN and I think my zone is 7 or 8 I have 3 that I need to plant, before
frost which happens around the fist of November. If so what kind of pots should
I buy?

Answer
The secret to growing roses well in pots is to give them a big enough one that will not crowd their roots. Roses really hate warm roots and a larger pot with a depth of about 18 inches will give the roots more room. Plastic pots are best as the ceramic or terra cotta ones, really get very hot when the sun shines on them.
Knock Out roses are tough and will do well in pots. Just make sure you use a package of potting soil. not some from the garden, as potting soil will drain much better and not settle  and go hard. Also to save time and effort, use a handful of slow release fertilizer such as Osmocote 14-14-14 as that will last all summer. Another good idea is to use any type of mulch you can get in your garden center and cover the top of the pot with about 3 inches. This will keep the soil damp and you won't have to water every day in the summer heat
