QuestionI have a rose tree and when I watered it on Wednesday it looked beautiful with no problems and when I went to water it on Friday all the leaves were withered, dry and falling off. What is wrong with it? The other rose tree looked great also, but on Friday it's leaves were wilting and turning yellow. Help!! Thanks, Linda
AnswerTwo possibilities in regards to a rose dropping it's leaves. One is that the weather was normal and then the temperature went higher and this always puts rose into stress. When a rose is under stress it starts to shut down and does it buy letting go of the leaves. The other is that although you watered it well, the water did not get far enough down to saturate the roots. Usually you have to stand with the hose and drive it all around the base making a puddle and then filling it up a few times. This should be done daily for a rose tree if the weather has turned hot.
After watering, take a trowel and dig down to see just how far the water has gone down. It should be at least down to 8 inches, preferably more. Then put a mulch of some kind all around the base and this will give the rose cool, damp roots which they really like.
