QuestionI purchased a climbing blue girl rose bush last spring. It keeps getting taller, but no roses. The rest of my rose bushes are doing fine. Except for the catterpillars on them. Is this just a hard to grow rose? Or should it be trimmed a little or something?
AnswerIt is not unusual for a climber to take up to thee years before it produces flowers. The reason being is that it is making growth and leaves at the expense of blooming. The thing that takes the most vigour in a rose is to make a flower and when it is young, it is programmed to make lot of growth as the growth is what will support the blooms. Lots of leaves means more flowers. Just give it another year and you will see a few blooms and then in another year many more will come. Blue Girl is a good rose and blooms well.
