Questionsick shrub rose
QUESTION: My shrub rose is sick. There were two of them planted 3 years ago. The other one did not come back this year. I have tried chelated iron last year and it didn't get better. This year I have been using Miracid and it's not better. Some of the leaves are almost white but it is getting some buds on it. Please help!!
ANSWER: Lack of iron can cause the type of leaves your picture shows but roots setting in waterlogged soil too long can also cause the leaves to go very pale yellow. Soil that is too high in H or too low can also cause that colour. I wouldn't use anymore Miracid because it can make the soil go acid and that may be your problem. If possible I would re-plant the rose in a container using potting soil and nothing else not even fertilizer and that should save your rose. It would be a good idea to have your soil tested where the roses were. Most agricultural labs do it free or you can get a soil testing kit from any garden center, Then you would know exactly what the problem is and what to do about it.

QUESTION: should I replant it right away? Should I trim it back or anything?
AnswerBecause the rose isn't looking well, I would re-plant it right away. However because it isn't dormant, it is going to complain when you move it. To lessen the stress of the move, cut the bush back to 12 inches, have the container ready before you dig it up and then plant it as soon as you have dug it up. Water it well, give it only rose fertilizer and then place the container in filtered sun for a few days and finally bring it out into the sun but no hot afternoon sun or it will wilt on you and may die. In a couple of weeks it will start looking like a new rose.
