QuestionI have 3 rose plants growing in my backyard. I wanted to change their location. When is the best time to do so and how should we do it to minimize any damage. FYI: they started flowering beautifully ( I just planted the bareroots this Feb 08)I live in Portland, OR. Thank you so much
AnswerRoses hate to be moved so the best time to do it is when they are dormant and that is in the late fall or early spring. Once they have dropped all their leaves then they don't know what you are doing to them. Have the new hole ready, dig the rose out and plant it right away. If you do it in the fall, which is fine for your area, put a mound of soil, mulch or compost etc about 8 inches deep around the base to protect it in case of a nasty winter. There will be no problems with the move.
