QuestionI live in Arizona, Zone 8 at about 4,000 feet. I have had great success with my rose bushes until I bought a Hybrid tea rose 'John F. Kennedy' #2. The leaves are turning yellow, edges are curling brown and I see small black spots on the leaves. The bush seems to be failing. We've had a lot of wind lately, but the heat hasn't gotten too bad - highs in the summer are around 100 (but not yet) Any suggestions?
AnswerYour rose has a fungal disease called Black Spot and some roses are more prone to it than others and JFK is one of them. Any rose spray for Black Spot will help keep it under control. Roses will get Black Spot if they are under stress, wind, high temperatures, just planted, too much too little water, the list is long. This is a beautiful rose, but there are lots of complaints about growing it so it isn't what you are doing, just the rose itself.
