QuestionI LIVE IN PHILADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA AND WOULD LIKE TO PLANT A YELLOW ROSE BUSH IN MY GARDEN BUT I DONT KNOW WHEN / WHAT TIME OF YEAR I SHOULD DO THIS AND WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO PLANT THEM. CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME ON THIS.
AnswerSpring is a good time to plant a rose in your area. If you have average garden soil then just dig a 18 inches deep, sprinkle a handful of bone meal in the soil and then plant the rose in the hole. Because you get cold winters, make sure you plant the bud union, that's the bump at the base of the roots, a few inches below the soil surface. Water well to keep the soil moist but not wet and then after it has bloomed, sprinkle a handful of any type of rose fertilizer all around the base. It takes about 6 weeks from planting to see a bloom.
