QuestionI purchased an Amore Rose Bush yesterday. It was "born" in Lindale, Texas and I purchased from Home Depot in Houston. I have a small townhouse patio (lots of sun). My neighbor has great luck with roses but this is my first. I will be repotting it into a large pot. What type of soil should I use? How often should I feed? Anything special I need to do at this point? Thanks.
AnswerMost roses will need a container that is 18 inches deep for their roots. Use a potting soil as that type of soil has been heated to get rid of any insects plus bacteria. Put a few stones in the bottom so the water will run out as roses don't like their roots sitting in very wet soil. Put a quarter of a cup of slow release fertilizer Osmocote 14-14-14 around the base of the rose when you have planted it. This type of fertilizer will release a little every time you water and will do you all summer. Also because roses love and do much better with cool roots, place some sort of mulch over the top of the soil. This will also save you time and effort in regards to watering. If it is windy and warm the rose won't dry out an die. When the flowers are over just snap them off with your fingers and another one will come right behind the old one.
