spider mites

Question
i have spider mitesall over my roses , what causes this ,have two different sprays that i use for black spot problem, one is spectarcide immunox 3-1 and daconil fungicide , which one is the best for spider mites.

Answer
Spider mites, are as the name says, are spiders. The  Spectracide Immunox spray you are using on your roses, is for the control of insects plus spider mites are mentioned on the label. However it appears that it isn't doing the job. Spider mites breed very quickly when the weather is hot and dry as they hate dampness. They lay their eggs in the soil around the base of the rose bush and when the eggs hatch, then start feeding on the lower leaves and continue upwards. They get away from the water because they only feed underneath the leaves.
I would take the hose and really wash the whole rose bush with a fairly strong spray but not enough to damage the leaves. Once the mites are knocked off with the water, they are unable to crawl up the rose bush again. Wait until dry and then use your Spectracide making sure you get lots all around the base of the rose bush to kill the eggs. Do this again in ten days time as the Spectracide only protects for a couple of weeks. If your climate tends to be hot and dry sometimes, then a mulch around the base of roses really helps to keep the plant moist and not become dry, conditions which appeal to the spider mites.
