QuestionI have a small male dog that is constantly marking my rose bushes. Some of the smaller bushes have dried outbrown foliage. I was wondering if this could be linked to the dog urine. Can dog urine kill my roses? Thanks!
AnswerApparently there are two types of dog urine. One is from a female dog and this type of urine will definitely kill a rose or for that matter any other plants, even damage lawns. The other type is male urine which isn't as strong, but in time will also kill. Try spraying near the rose where he sprays, with ammonia and water, 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of water. This won't hurt the rose if you just spray the soil near it. This should confuse the dog as it is his scent he is looking for. When all else fails, then cayenne pepper sprinkled near the bush definitely works.
