AnswerBecause you don't have many roses, there are two things you can do for Japanese beetles. One is to go out before 7 in the morning, shake the rose bush and pick up the beetles and drown them in soapy water. Japanese beetles feed at night and then sleep during the day. The other is to place a thin material, such as bridal veil type, over the roses. These beetle have a set feeding period and then are finished eating roses.
The curling leaves are infected with mildew. 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 1 quart of water sprayed daily until the growth is normal, should solve the problem. There are also fungicide sprays for roses which will also kill the mildew on the rose leaves. Cold nights and warm days are the conditions which encourages mildew.
