QuestionHi Lynnette,
My boyfriend and I are having a disagreement as to weather a Rose bush plant is better in the ground or in a planter. I can not come up with a common sense answer as to why you would leave one in a planter verses the ground. Can you answer this?
Thank you,
Angela
AnswerThis question can be answered two ways, but it all depends on how much I am bribed. LOL First of all, roses do not like warm roots and do much better when their roots are cool and damp and their head is in the sun, so they do prefer to be in the cool ground. Most containers, especially the cement or ceramic ones, tend to really heat up with the sun bearing down on them for a period of time. However if the container is a very large one, then smaller roses are quite happy to be grown in a container. But on the whole, medium to larger sized roses really do much better in the ground.
