QuestionHello,
I recently cut off a large branch of a one of my rose bush and put it in some water. To my amazement, the branch has now started to grow leaves throughout and looks very healthy. The branch has not grown any roots. My question is, can I plant this branch even though it doesn't have any roots? Thank you, Luis
AnswerCuttings of a rose are usually no thicker than a pencil as any larger seems to not strike as well. If your branch is very thick it is probably growing leaves with the moisture that is left inside the thick branch. However if it is thinner then I would plant it in a pot with a sterile potting mixture and keep it moist but not wet. When it really gets going, give it monthly, any liquid houseplant fertilizer at half strength. Leave it in the pot for a year and then you can plant it outside in the garden the following spring.
