QuestionGreetings, Ms Marisa Parent:
Hope you can help me with the following question:
I don抰 know which zone includes the South Lake Tahoe area, but I need to know at least one variety (and color) of garden roses which I might expect to find growing up there.
Thanks,
Lou

AnswerAny rose on it's own root system. And not one that is a hybrid tea rose, or a grafted rose should do fine, I could list several, but you need to see what your local nursery has available, and buy it as long as it states OWN ROOT ROSE. Shrub roses are by far the hardiest roses you can get and they are usually on the their own root systems. A couple of names of shrub roses that would work are: Austrian Copper, Blanc Double De Coubert, F.J. Grootendorst, Frau Dagmar Hartopp, Hansa, Linda Campbell, Moje Hammarberg, Persian Yellow, Purple Pavement, Rosa Rugosa, Therese Bugnet, Topaz Jewel, Baby Love, Be-Bop, Betty Prior, Bonanza, Bonica, Buff Beauty, Carefree Beauty, Carefree Delight, Carefree Wonder, Champlain, Country Dancer, DayDream, Flower Girl, Golden Unicorn, Gourmet Popcorn, Heart N Soul, Home Run, Knock Out, Lady Elsie May, Midnight Blue, Morden Blush, Morden Centennial, Morden Fireglow, Nearly Wild, Oranges N Lemons, Outta the Blue, Palmengarten Frankfurt, Pillow Fight, Pink Knock Out, Pink Meidilant, Rabble ROuser, Rainbow Knock Out, Raven, Red Fairy, Red Meidiland, Renae, Rhaspdaoy in Blue, Rockin Robin, Scarlet Meidiland, Sea Foam, Starr Night, The Fairy, Weeping China Doll, What a Peach, White Meidiland. The hardiest of all listed above would be a rugosa rose, or a knock out rose, they are hardy, insect, and disease resistant as well. I hope this helps. There are hundreds more that would work but I thought this was a start. The roses listed above are sold by Weeks Roses, a rose wholesale distributor.
