QuestionI work in an HOA and people are planting rose bushes in areas that are very small, my concern is that they are planting them near the water main that goes to their home. I am wondering about the root growth of roses...with this impact/cause harm to the pipe?
Thanks
AnswerRose roots are not the invasive type. They rarely go deeper than 18 inches unless they are a climber or a very vigorous hybrid tea. The water main will be planted fairly deep and will not have any areas in which the rose roots should they be extremely vigorous types, could penetrate or get through or even damage the water main pipes. I wouldn't worry if I were you as the main concern should be trees that have invasive roots such as willows. Hope this helps.
