Hi ,Thanks , this Peggy in N.C  When I cut roses in the bud stage they are so pretty. The only thing they open up over night.  Why when you buy rose buds , they last for weeks and never open and petals for off.  Any help would be appreciate.   You rose friend Peggy

Because the flowers you buy at the store are usually grown inside a greenhouse that has a high night temp, so when you bring these roses home they are used to the warmer night temps of your home.  The roses you cut from the garden are used to cooler nights (50 degrees or lower) and when you bring them inside the house, the warm night temps inside your home force them to open up very quickly.  You can cut your garden roses and then put them into the fridge at night to keep them from opening too quickly.  This is the only explanation I have for you.  Hope it helps.
