QuestionI just bought a Kordana rose from the grocery store and I would like to plant it outside. I live in mid-Michigan (zone 5). Is it too late to plant it outside now?
AnswerI would say yes, it is a little too late to plant right now. The reasons: the root system will not have enough time to produce new feeder roots into the new soil, and the plant will be acclimated for the indoors and putting it outside without it having time to gradually adjust to the colder temp.s will cause it to go into shock. I would keep it inside in a southern facing sunny windowsill until next Spring and plant it outside then, begin by feeding it B1 root stimulator and Osmocote slow release fertilizer in the hole when you plant it, and it will do beautifully. I would rather see you wait and it thrive, than for you to risk it and have it go into shock and die over the winter.
