Jennifer rose

Question
My grandpa bred roses for as long as I can remember. He once made me a 'Jennifer' rose, and after he passed away, my mom got the rose bush. One year, she transplanted the bush to a different part of our yard and the bush died. I'm not sure if he ever registered the rose, but I was wondering if there was a 'Jennifer' rose out there. The one he bred was yellow with a slight pink hue on the tips of the petals.

If there isn't such a rose, would you be able to recommend one that's similar? I'd like to carry one in my wedding bouquet to remind me of him.

Thank you very much!

Answer
The first thing I want to say:  I am so sorry that your rose did not make the transplant, I know how difficult it can be when a plant represents something so important to someone and then it dies.  Especially the fact that he bred it with you in mind.  What an amazing story and he sounds like an amazing man.
This is a very difficult question to answer.  I will start by saying, there are literally hundreds of thousands upon thousand of roses out there, and thousands of people breeding roses.  And since you don't actually have a patent or registration on that particular hybrid, I would say he probably did not get it registered.  I order our roses from Jackson & Perkins, & Weeks roses.  They are the two biggest rose suppliers in the U.S.  I know that there are several other popular distributors, but those are the two I am most familiar with.  And neither one of them list a "Jennifer rose".  I also tried several different Internet searches and came up with nothing.  I am so sorry I can't help you with your search for the exact rose you are looking for, but don't give up and I won't either.

A couple of roses that sound similar to the one you described are:

"Sheila's Perfume" (which smells incredible, a floribunda yellow with pink on the end of the petals)http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/43304/

And the famous "Peace" rose (fully double, highly scented, pink-tinged yellow flowers)  This one seems to be the closest matching one according to your description and looking at the flower picture's. http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/gifts/store/BECProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId...

I will keep doing more research on my end, to see if I come up with some more variety names for you.  When are you getting married?

It will probably be hard finding a florist that actually deals with particular variety names of roses.  And if you are getting them during the winter months, they mostly likely will be grown inside a greenhouse, which makes them lose their fragrance.  But I will keep trying to find you the perfect rose.  Look up those varieties at those web sites.  Just copy and paste the link into the browser, if they don't come up as a clickable link.  I am sorry I wasn't able to help you better, and give you the wonderful news of finding your "Jennifer Rose".  Keep in touch and let me know what you think of those, and if I can help you with anything else.  Otherwise, I will keep on looking for more rose for you!
