Is there any special care needed for my Rose of Sharon plant in the winter? I live in Michigan and the plant is 3 years old. Thanks, Tracie

The rose of sharon is a shrub not a rose even though it is named rose. If you have had the plant for three years then you are doing all the right things for it. If you are concerened then I would mould up the base with compost or any type of mulch you can get in your area, to about 10 inches. This will protect the roots in case of an extremely cold winter. Even if the whole plant diesback it will come back from the protected 10 inches with no problems.
