AnswerWhen you prune always depends on what type of winter you get. If the winter is mild then prune in the fall. Should you get a spell of really cold weather, then plant in the spring before the rose leafs out.
You could try cuttings now and see what happens. It will all depend on what type of winter you get. Spring would be the best for a Lady Banks cuttings. Take anbout 8 inches off the top of a cane that has already flowered this year. Leave the top two leaves and cut off all the rest plus any hips or dead flowers on the top. If you are doing it now then just push the cuttings into the soil until the top two leaves are resting on the ground. Keep the soil damp but not wet. You will not see any new growth until spring. Do the same proceedure in the spring. Take many cuttings as some will not strike. I usually take at least five. In the spring when you see new growth starting give them a weak fertilizer such as fish and dilute it to half strength. Wait until the fall before you re-plant but only if the cuttings are really putting out new growth. If not then wait until the spring. Hope this helps.
