QuestionHi-
I live in Michigan and put in a rose of sharon bush about 3 years ago. This year I just noticed that I have some green beetle type bugs (vibrant almost neon green) congregating near the flowers in large groups. I wanted to find out what they are and it they are dangerous to the plant and anything else. Any help would be appreciated. I looked up box elders, aphids and thrips and they are not any of these.
AnswerI only answer questions about roses as that is the area in which I have knowledge. I like Rose of Sharon and am wondering if these are the beetles you describe?

No matter what the beetle is it is a beetle and hand picking in the early morning is a good organic way to get rid of them. If they are eating your Rose of Sharon then there are insecticides that will get rid of them. Ortho puts out a good one called Orethene. Hope this helps.
