QuestionI live in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, in about zone 5. We have a lovely Stanwell bush that was spectacular this spring. We have never seen a rose hip on this bush, but we have one lovely burgundy rose hip this autumn. Is this unusual? Would it produce another Stanwell? If so, how would you go about propagating it?
AnswerStandwell Perpetual does produce hips as one of it's parents is a Pimpinellifolia and their hips are like a large black current. Because roses have many roses in their breeding background, the chances are that you would get a single pink one like a species rose. But I would try it and see what happens. Here is a really good web site that will take you carefully all though the process of growing seeds. Hope this helps.
