QuestionMy mom passed away March 15th and she has a peace rose in her yard that I would really like to get a start off. I have no idea where to cut of how to do this.
AnswerThere are two ways you can start a rose plant and these websites explain it clearly. When you take cuttings, take many, as some will not strike. You can also dig the whole rose up and replant it after you have taken the cuttings off. Water the rose well the night before, cut then rose back to 18 inches and take off all the leaves. Have the hole ready and plant as soon as you have dug it out. The best time to replant roses is when they are dormant and that is early fall or spring. So when the rose is growing you have to trick it into believing it is dormant and taking off the leaves puts it into a short dormant state. Water the rose daily and don't stop until you see new leaves growing. Hope this helps.
