My About Face has had 2 large branches break off at the base. The branches appeared healthy with new buds at the tips. The end of the branch that was attached to the shrub looked like it had been sealed off. It was not discolored and the rest of the bush appeared healthy. Can you explain why this happened and what I can do to prevent this from happening again? thank you

I honestly can't tell you what happened but new canes are very vulnerable to wind rock and something brushing against them. Even buds on the top can put strain on the base on a new cane. Roses planted with the bud union above the soil can have cane breakage. Some times a cane will simply break off for no reason at all. I know the rose you are talking about and this just may be something you will have to watch out for. Hope this helps.
