English Rose Bllooms Change Color

Question
I planted five English Roses in Feb. Two of them seem okay (the red Shakesphere and Charles Rennie). And my two "Pink" roses (Abraham Darby and Ambridge Rose) and "yellow" rose (golden celibration) bloomed with the expected colors and slowly changed in shades (per the books) which I also expected.

But my SECOND flush of blooms is much different than the first. My pink roses looked washed out to whitish and my yellow rose is now blooming pink (or near pink). None of the colors are anyway near as strong as they were in the first bloom.

Two things might be affecting them: 1) A preliminary test shows the soil PH to be 6.1 to 6.6 - could this affect color? 2) I added chelated iron w/ trace elements (very diluted)....could that change/wash out colors 3) I fed them an organic fertilizer (general purpose for flowers)as well - could that change colors?

I hope this can be corrected. The first flush was so nice, but the latest batch looks like a bunch of tainted and washed out white blooms.

Answer
All the English roses do best where they don't get any hot afternoon sun but alas we all don't have perfect gardens to locate them in. What you describe is very normal for the Austin roses. They will come back to their normal colour in the fall flush.Your ph is fine and the additives would not cause any colour change. Usually with additives and acid soils, they make a rose go darker. Abraham Darby does go to a pinker shade in the heat. Ambridge usually just fades out to a washed out pastel and Golden Celebration to a pale yellow. It is one of the disappointment in this class, the unstableness of the colours. His reds are usually okay. Keep in mind that these roses were bred mainly for the English climate which is damp and cool. I'm afraid your description sounds normal to me. Hope this helps.
