QuestionI have tons of blooms, but roses blooms not opening. I pulled back some petals and notices small redish orange worm type insect hiding underneath petal - what is this and how di I get rid of them- I have this problem on all 10 rose bushes-
AnswerAs there are many insects with larvae that is the same colour as yours, it is hard to identify without seeing them. However the life cycle is the same for all worms found on roses. The mother usually lays her eggs on the new growth. When they hatch they feed on the buds. When the buds try to open they have been damaged and so the flowers will be distorted also. Worms are the easiest to get rid of and any rose insecticide will solve your problem. If you prefer organic solutions then you could pick off all the distorted buds and flowers, drop them into soapy water, and see if that gets rid of the worms. Hope this helps.
