QuestionI just got mini roses for valentines day and i was wondering how much i should feed them? thank you for your time.
AnswerYour Miniroses were probably force-fed at an incredible rate to prepare them for serious blooming by Valentines Day. They will need a good rest when they're finished blooming.
Make sure you remove the flowers as soon as they begin to go downhill. The gas emitted by the spent blooms will cause the rest of the blooms to quit, and are not good for the rest of the plant, either.
Plus, you don't want this to make seeds. It's been through enough already. Sort of like hard labor with no painkillers. It has to relax.
Cut the blooms at the bases of the stems with a scissors. Let the pot dry out between waterings and give it lots of sun, but do not fertilize any more.
If you have a dry indoor heated living situation, you may notice some yellowed and/or dropped leaves. This is hard to correct because you don't have a greenhouse. If you remove the leaves and wait, it will probably adjust.
In spring, put it outside gradually to get it even more light, and when you see new leaves growing, it will be time to repot and fertilize. Jackson & Perkins sells an "Organic Rose Food" (http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BECProductDisplay?lan...(SMX)&cm_pla=&cm_ite=DDI%20Link) that is probably very good for potted Roses. If you use it, let me know what your results are like.
Thanks for writing, Precious, and I hope to hear from you again soon.
