QuestionI have had a rogusta bush for around five years. It is over seven feet high. I have heard you can grow them as a hedge. When do I prune this bush? And by how much?
AnswerRugosa roses make really nice hedges. If you prune it back to 3 feet in the spring it will bush out, stand up straighter and look good. If you live where the winter is not cold, you can prune it right now. Sprinkle any rose fertilizer all around the base and water daily for a week to get it started again.Pruning back does depend on how high you want the rose to grow back. Most rugosas will grow to at least 12 inches in a season sometimes more. Hope this helps.
