QuestionI have a big rose garden near Mumbai. We have Avg. rainfall 120 inches. climate is humid. I want to use Hormones on Roses for the Rose Compitition. On which stage should I use them, which hormones should I use? And what percentage should I use them?
AnswerAssuming you are already providing optimal growth conditions for your Roses, plant hormones and related chemicals may or may not help you win a Rose Contest.
These chemicals stimulate, unnaturally, various growth hormones and processes. The huge flowers that can result are in fact distortions.
A competition that looks only at the size of a flower might crown the biggest Rose queen for a day.
There are several sources for these hormones. You need to practice with them to get your own system. Try Giberellic acid treatments for starters. The Supergrow website (www.super-grow.biz/Products.jsp) offer a large assortment of Giberellins and related products as well as basic instructions for application and use. I don't know what restrictions are in place in India for importing these things; perhaps there are closer sources.
Bottom line, however, is that you should be sure that your soil and fertilizing are at peak levels - quality, not quantity that is. And the Roses you have should have potential. Can't squeeze blood out of a stone.
