Question have a small miniature rose bush that was approx. 4" tall and 3"
wide with coral colored roses on it. I bought it because it looked
so beautiful. I never expected it to grow! I gave it to my mother
and since then, it has grown and bloomed 3 different rose
colors...all on the original one main stem (the coral color did not
reappear). Strange....have you ever seen this before? The roses
have a different texture about the, also.
AnswerHi Jean-
All miniatures have china rose "blood" in them. The china rose is an ancient rose that comes from - where else - china! These roses are known for having blooms of many different colors on them. For instance - check out the rose "Mutabilis." The color of the blooms range from yellow through a coppery pink to crimson. As the light hits the petals and they age - the petals change color. Its possible that this is what is going on with the rose you are talking about.
Either that - or it was a spontaneous mutation (sport) of the original bush - this does happen but it is rare. Ophelia is a rose that had many sports (mutations) - Madame Butterfly was one of them.
Have fun smelling the roses-
