QuestionI have 10 mini rose bushes . When i got them I transplanted them in pots in the house. they were doing fine for a month or two.Now they have these green little things on them (stems and leaves) I wash them off with my fingers and flush the down the drain. I also have a lot of nats flying around them, and theres white looking (looks like tiny eggs) stuff onthe top of the soil.
What's the problem(s).
Thank you.
AnswerPlease keep in mind that roses really are not house plants even though I know they are sold as such. Little mini rose bushes are no different then the big rose plants in the garden and so they require the same conditions to do well. Roses don't do well and will attact bugs in dry conditions like the dry atmosphere you find in a house. If you want to grow a rose indoors then you have to provide the same conditions that they would enjoy outside. Outdoors you get humidity and that is what your roses are lacking. I am sure you brought the knats home with your plants and they have become active in your home. These little knats may be tiny but they are tough little beggars and although washing them off certainly helps, you are mainly just getting nice clean bugs!
Safers puts out an organic spray called Trounce and it has worked very well on most indoors pests. Make sure when you spray that you also spray all around the base of the minis as well as there will be others that you can see in the soil. If you could give your minis some outdoor time and also just spritz them with warm water daily, you will see a big difference in their growth and health.
PS If you can't find Trounce, then any indoor spray for bugs will solve the problem.
