QuestionI planted a bare-root rose yesterday afternoon, soaking it well before and during planting. Most of today it looked fine, but this afternoon I noticed major wilting. I've watered again, but am wondering if it's possible to be overwatering it already? Could it be wilting from too much rather than not enough water? I know that's sometimes possible, but thought with a bare-root rose it would be hard to overwater at least in the first few days.
AnswerHi Gina....You do not mention where you are? As in any transplant or new rose there will be some wilting in the initial phases.
Hopefully you added all your "organics" at the planting (humus, compost, or peat moss to supplement the soil). Ideally, most of us love raised beds for roses because then we can determine exactly what they are planted in.
I, on the other hand, have too many to baby in that way. But, I was blessed with great soil and supplement it all with compost/organice humus and have had great results.
Be patient. Your rose should be fine.
