Rose leaf miner - black spot - feeding

Question
Can't remember what I'm supposed to do for the trails in all the leaves of my roses from leaf miners.

Is Miracle Grow a good fertilizer for roses or what would you recommend?

Is Daconil the best thing for black spot?  I got caught with a wet spring and now will have to remove all those spotted leaves.

Thank YOu
Rachel

Answer
Hi Rachel..........let's start with fertilizing.........you should apply an organic/synthetic alternate seasons.  Here I apply granules in the spring and an organic feritlizer(Mills Magic) in the fall.  The purpose of this is to put back the beneficial organics that the roses steal from the soil in the process of leafing/blooming,etc. I supplement all this with applications of either Bloom Booster(miracle-gro product) or Miracle Gro for Roses , every two weeks.  This insures blooms when i need them most!
As for black spot...it is inevitable in humid wet weather .  The best product(s) i have found locally are Immunox and Ortho Disease Control.  Ortho is a systemic and goes directly into the leaf itself, working from inside out.  Immunox coats the leaf on the outside.  If you use on of these in the Spring , it is a good idea to switch products mid-season so that the plant does not form an immunity(a liking!) to it.  If these don't help solve your problem, key in online to:  Rosemania... for other useful products (all approved by the American Rose Society)
Remember that a fungicide is proactive , in the sense that we need to spray and clean up on a regular basis to prevent the out break and continuation of.(about every 2 to 3 weeks depending on the product used)
Leafminers.........can be controlled by most rose insecticides.....read the label and you should not be bothered by them again this season.
