QuestionI have a very small garden and i have one New Dawn climber rose that is blooming - However there are yellow speckly blooms along with some of the leaves having holes in them. When i look into the bloom i see these skinny critters go back into the center of the bloom. So i have done some research and found out they are thrips. So how do i kill them? People have suggested to me insecticidal soap but that did not work. Will Insecticide work and what kind? I have tomatoes growing right by the climber rose. I have heard that you can buy nematodes? But I am looking for something cheap and easy - Any suggestions? Anything i can buy at the local Home Depot or Lowe's?
AnswerHi Blake....thrips are no real threat (unless of course you are making arrangements.......then the bugs can be "rinsed" out of the blooms) You could try the same with a hose, and Ortho has a product that is pretty decent on killing almost anything that attacks roses. Pretty much it is a little easier to prevent the thrips early in the season....Volk Oil is a good choice ......to kill(smother) the eggs.
Hope i was of some help.....let me know.
