QuestionMy wife just purchased a F.J. Grootendorst, bright red rose bush. My question is I cannot find any information on any web page about it, can you tell me to what zone it is hardy to. We live in Trenton Ont. Canada, zone 5.
AnswerHi Jack, Did you just enter "F.J. Grootendorst" in the search? Sometimes floral websites have each product listed and you can bring it up that way.
I do however have some info. on it! It is a rugosa hybrid raised by De Goey in 1918. Vigorous,thorny...it bears flowers throughout summer and autumn, 2-3m. in height. Parentage: Rubra X Mme Norbert Levavasseur.
Rugosas have a history of being able to adjust to most weather conditions.......so that is in your favor.
It should be a rose you will enjoy for a long time....some rugosas send out "runners" with new rooted pieces comeing up in the ground around the bush. These can be carefully transplanted and shared. God bless
