AnswerRoses like the soil to be on the acid side. If the soil in the garden is very acid then once a year in the early spring when the rains will wash it in, you can sprinkle a little limestone around the base of the rose to sweeten the soil but never near the roots. Limestone on rose roots makes the leaves go a sickly, greeny yellow, plus the plant will be stunted. You do put a cup of bone meal in the planting hole so perhaps that is what they meant. Lynnette
