planting cut roses

Question
Hi Lynette,

I have recently purchased some beautiful red and white cut roses for my wife. In fact they are some of the nicest roses I've seen. It made me wonder if it is possible to plant cut roses in an attempt to grow a rose bush. most rose bushes i have seen come no where near to the beauty and shape of the cut roses I have recently purchased.

I live in Winnipeg, Mb

Regards,
Peter

Answer
Do keep in mind that florist roses come from  controlled greenhouses. Therefore they may only be happy in green house conditions. These roses are also forced to grow quickly and because of that the canes are not like a typical garden rose which can be started from a cutting. Here is a couple of web sites that will take you through the process. Just make sure you take a lot of cuttings as even in normal conditions, some will not strike. Hope this helps Lynnette
