QuestionHello Again,
If the bush dies from the Rosette disease, does the soil need to be removed? If so, how much?
Thank you

Hello,
I have a peace rose, and last summer it got the black spot. This year it got it again. I've been spraying it with fungicide. However, a couple months ago, it sprouted a new branch after loosing most of its leaves. This new branch is packed with leaves and thorns. There is also a lot of really small buds. Also last year, I had bought a "black" rose and after I had planted it, it sprouted a similar branch, but no black spot. Could the black rose have infected the peace rose?
Thank you

Here is a web site with a picture of the rose rosette disease. It will tell you all about it. See if it looks anything like your rose.

The other problem could be that the understock has come up and it is always different. Dig down and see if it is coming below the budding bump. If it is then cut it off or it will take over the whole bush. Lynnette
AnswerHere is a web site that tells you what to do if you have the disease. Mites can't live in the soil as they suck and have to have plant tissue to live on. However I am the type that would remove the soil to some other place in the garden before I planted any other rose there. Plus don't forget about spraying. If you know where you got the rose, it would be a good idea to tell them about it as they may not know that their supplier is infected. Lynnette
