QuestionThis season, we planted two miniature rose bushes. The bed was prepared to a depth of 12" with a topsoil/dehydrated manure mixture. They have been sprayed with a "rose spray" according to directions and watered briefly every other day. One has dropped almost every leaf, the other is catching up. Help!
AnswerMini roses can get in a snit for just about anything no matter how trivial. Spraying is one of those things that can sometimes annoy them. When a rose is put into a new location, it is disturbed and won't take normal events such as spraying or even fertilizing without re-acting. Your roses are not dead or dying what you decsribe is just a re-action. I am almost certain it is the spraying. Because roses love cool, damp roots, a mulch is a good idea and will makes them healthier, and the leaves will come back. If the weather is normal and not very hot, then I would only water every 5 days soaking the mini very well and then letting it dry out. Each mini can use about 4 quarts of water and with a mulch, will only need more water if the weather turns very hot. Hope this helps. Lynnette
