QuestionMy house and yard has had several owners, all of whom loved flowers. I inherited several roses, and have added approximately 50 more! Most of the 'originals' I have easily identified. But for one. One that I have trained on a fence, as the habit is very climber like. It blooms only once in late spring for me (now, to be more specific), and is a bit prone to black spot in this area. Leaves are 'spring green' and not particularly lush or prominent. The true show is the flowers, that even tho are only once a year, are well worth it, and only reason I keep this rose. They are pure white, with some pink on outer exposed/budding petals. Buds are pointed. No real scent for me, but flowers are huge double tea form. And so so white! Basically just one bloom per stem. Very sensitive bud/bloom, must have lots of sun to open, or will just stop the process and 'ball up' , We have had a very dry spring, so the show is truely outstanding this year. I live in north central Alabama, zone 7a Thanks for any assistance you can give me.
AnswerYour rose sounds a lot like Frau Karl Drushki. She is a vigorous Hybrid Perpetual but can be grown like a climber. Her leaves are a lighter green than most roses and the buds have a touch of pink on them. Alas she is VERY prone to black spot. See if any of these photos look like your rose. This, of course, is only a wild guess. If one could identify many roses, they would make a fortune. Hope this helps. Lynnette
